About the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T

The 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport marked a bold new chapter for Hyundai’s midsize crossover lineup. Completely redesigned for the 2013 model year, the Santa Fe Sport was positioned as the sportier, two-row variant of the Santa Fe family. This particular unit features the top-tier 2.0T trim, equipped with the turbocharged 2.0-liter Theta II four-cylinder engine producing 264 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque โ€” a significant upgrade over the base 2.4L naturally aspirated engine. Paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, the 2.0T delivered a driVIN: 5XYZUDLA9DG082947 experience that rivaled many competitors in its class.

Finished in Snow White Pearl (color: WHITE), this Santa Fe Sport rolled off the line at Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia on April 15, 2013. The 2.0T trim came loaded with features including a panoramic sunroof, heated front and rear seats, a navigation system, and Hyundai’s advanced safety suite. With 154936 miles on the odometer, this vehicle has been a reliable daily driver and now provides an excellent source of used parts for Santa Fe Sport owners looking to maintain or repair their vehicles at a fraction of dealer pricing.

The third-generation Santa Fe Sport quickly became one of Hyundai’s best-selling models, praised for its spacious interior, aggressive styling, and competitive pricing. Used parts from the 2013 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T are in high demand, particularly the turbo engine components, AWD transfer case, and interior trim pieces. At 603 Auto Salvage, we’ve carefully dismantled this vehicle to make quality used parts available to owners across the country.

๐Ÿ” Known Issues โ€” 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T

Theta II Engine Bearing Failure HIGH

The 2.0L Theta II turbo engine is subject to a major recall (17V226) for premature connecting rod bearing wear caused by manufacturing defects. This can lead to engine knocking, oil starvation, and catastrophic engine seizure. Hyundai extended engine warranties and issued multiple recalls covering engine replacement. This is the most significant issue affecting the 2013 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T.

Engine Oil Consumption & Fire Risk HIGH

Related to the Theta II engine issues, some units experience excessive oil consumption that can lead to engine stalling or, in severe cases, engine compartment fires. Hyundai issued a software update (knock sensor detection system) to monitor for bearing issues and alert drivers before catastrophic failure occurs.

Turbocharger Failure MODERATE

The turbocharger on the 2.0T can fail prematurely, especially if oil change intervals are not strictly followed. Symptoms include loss of boost pressure, excessive turbo lag, oil smoke from the exhaust, and whining noises from the turbo. Replacement turbo assemblies are a commonly sought-after used part.

Panoramic Sunroof Issues MODERATE

The panoramic sunroof on the 2.0T trim can develop issues including spontaneous cracking or shattering (without impact), water leaks around the seals, and mechanical failure of the sliding mechanism. Replacement glass panels and sunroof assemblies are in high demand.

ABS Module Brake Fluid Leak HIGH

Multiple NHTSA recalls (20V520, 21V303, 23V651) address brake fluid leaking inside the ABS module, causing electrical shorts and potential engine compartment fires. This is a fire risk even while parked. Owners were advised to park outside until repairs were completed.

โ“ Frequently Asked Questions

What engine does the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T have?
The 2013 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 cylinder engine (Theta II, code G4KH) producing 264 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and available in both FWD and AWD configurations. This turbo engine provides significantly more power than the base 2.4L (190 hp) found in non-turbo Santa Fe Sport models.
What years are compatible with 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport parts?
The 2013 Santa Fe Sport shares the DM platform with 2013-2018 models. Many mechanical and interior parts are directly interchangeable within this generation. Body panels, headlights, and taillights are best matched with 2013-2016 models (pre-facelift). The 2017-2018 models received a mid-cycle refresh with updated front/rear styling. Engine and transmission components from the 2.0T are specific to the turbo variant and not interchangeable with the 2.4L base model.

However, many units with proper maintenance and recall repairs have reached 150,000+ miles without major issues. If purchasing a used Theta II engine, verify the recall repair history and ensure the knock sensor detection software update has been applied.
