1
POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:COLUMN SHIFT
17V821000
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2010-2017 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks equipped with a column shifter. Pushing the brake pedal for prolonged periods when the vehicle is running and in PARK may cause the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) pin to stick in the open position, allowing the transmission to be shifted out of PARK without pushing the brake pedal or having the key in the ignition.
Consequence: Unintended vehicle rollaway that may result in personal injury or a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will update the vehicle software, inspect the BTSI, and replace as necessary, free of charge. Chrysler recall T79.
2
STEERING:LINKAGES:TIE ROD ASSEMBLY
13V529000
Chrysler Group LLC is recalling certain 2008-2012 RAM 2500 4X4 and 3500 4X4 trucks. The left tie rod assembly may break, resulting in a loss of steering control.
Consequence: Loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the steering linkage assembly if necessary. Supersedes recall 11V350. Chrysler recall N49.
3
STEERING:LINKAGES:TIE ROD ASSEMBLY
11V350000
Chrysler is recalling certain 2008-2011 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 4X4 because the left tie rod ball stud may fracture during low-speed parking lot maneuvers when making a tight turn.
Consequence: Loss of directional stability in the left front wheel, increasing crash risk.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect tie rod ends, replace left outer tie rod as needed, and perform front end alignment, free of charge. Chrysler recall L16.
4
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:DIESEL
14V635000
Chrysler Group LLC is recalling certain 2010-2014 Ram 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 trucks. The electrical connectors of the diesel fuel heater may overheat, causing a fuel leak and fire risk. Note: This recall applies to diesel-equipped models; this vehicle has the HEMI V8 but was included in the recall campaign.
Consequence: Fuel heater may leak fuel, increasing the risk of a fire.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the harness connector and inspect the fuel heater, free of charge. Chrysler recall P65.

🔍 Known Issues — 2010-2012 RAM 2500 (5.7L HEMI)

Steering Wander / Death Wobble HIGH

The 2003-2012 Ram HD trucks are notorious for front-end steering wander and “death wobble” — a violent oscillation of the front wheels triggered by hitting a bump at highway speed. Root causes include worn tie rod ends, track bar bushings, ball joints, or unit bearings. A comprehensive front-end inspection and replacement of worn components typically resolves the issue. This is the #1 complaint across all Ram HD trucks of this era.

HEMI Lifter / Cam Failure (MDS System) HIGH

The 5.7L HEMI with Multi-Displacement System (MDS) can experience lifter roller failure, causing misfires, ticking noises, and potential camshaft damage. The MDS deactivates 4 cylinders for fuel economy, but the lifters that enable this can fail prematurely. Common between 80,000-1 miles. Repair typically involves replacing all 16 lifters and potentially the camshaft — a $2,000-$4,000 job.

Exhaust Manifold Bolt Failure MODERATE

The 5.7L HEMI is known for exhaust manifold bolts breaking, particularly on the rear cylinders of both banks. This causes a ticking/exhaust leak noise most noticeable on cold starts that may quiet down as the engine warms. The repair involves extracting broken bolts — a labor-intensive job that can cost $500-$1,200 at a shop.

TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) Failures MODERATE

The 2007-2013 Ram trucks use a TIPM that controls many electrical functions. Common symptoms include fuel pump relay failure (truck won’t start or randomly stalls), horn honking on its own, power windows malfunctioning, or random dashboard warning lights. Replacement TIPMs run $400-$800 for the part alone.

Ball Joint Wear MODERATE

The heavy front end of the Ram 2500 puts significant stress on the upper and lower ball joints. Premature wear is common, especially on 4WD models used for towing or off-road. Symptoms include clunking over bumps, uneven tire wear, and loose steering feel. Most need replacement between 60,000-1 miles. Aftermarket heavy-duty ball joints are a popular upgrade.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What engine does the 2011 RAM 2500 HD have?
This 2011 RAM 2500 HD is equipped with the 5.7L HEMI V8 producing 383 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. It features Chrysler’s Multi-Displacement System (MDS) which deactivates 4 cylinders during light-load driving for improved fuel economy. The HEMI V8 is paired with a heavy-duty automatic transmission. While the 6.7L Cummins diesel was also available, this truck has the gas HEMI — a proven, powerful engine known for strong towing capability.
What years are compatible with 2011 RAM 2500 parts?
The 2011 RAM 2500 shares the D2 platform with 2010-2012 models. The 5.7L HEMI engine and transmission are shared across many Chrysler trucks and SUVs from 2009-2013. Body panels, headlights, and bumpers are best matched with 2010-2012 specifically due to the Ram brand refresh. Interior components are largely shared across 2009-2012 models. Suspension and steering parts often interchange with 2003-2012 RAM HD trucks.

How reliable is the 5.7L HEMI in a RAM 2500?
The 5.7L HEMI V8 is a proven and durable engine that can exceed 200,000-1 miles with proper maintenance. The main concern is the MDS (Multi-Displacement System) lifters which can fail over time. Regular oil changes every 1 miles with quality synthetic oil, and keeping up with spark plug changes (every 1 miles) are the keys to longevity. The engine itself is robust — it’s the front-end steering components on the Ram HD that tend to need more attention.
