You should remove your license plates from the vehicle before it is picked up or dropped off at our yard. The plates belong to you, not the car, and they should never remain on a sold or scrapped vehicle.
Simply unscrew the plates and keep them in a safe place. If you forget, our driver can assist in removing them at the time of pickup. Once you have your plates, you can either transfer them to a new vehicle or return them to the DMV or RMV depending on your state’s regulations.
In New Hampshire, you can usually transfer plates to your next vehicle as long as the registration is still valid. In Massachusetts, plates must typically be returned to the RMV when you cancel your registration.
Removing your plates also helps prevent any confusion if the car’s VIN or registration is later reviewed. It is an important step to protect yourself from future fees or liability.
