Do you send 1099 forms for sellers?

For private individual sellers, no — 603 Auto Salvage does not issue 1099 forms. Most vehicle sales are treated as personal property transactions, not income. That means they do not meet the IRS criteria for 1099 reporting. You are simply receiving money for an item you owned that has depreciated in value.

The only time a 1099 form may apply is if you are selling vehicles as part of a business, such as a towing company, auto dealer, or recycler that regularly supplies us with inventory. In those cases, we may issue a 1099 form for accounting purposes, as required by federal law.

For regular consumers, there is no reporting or tax paperwork. The process is simple, direct, and final — you sell your car, receive your payment, and that is it.
